November Book Recommendations
I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving (for those of us in the US)! It’s one of my favorite holidays. We have so much to be grateful for. And of course, I’m always thankful for books! =) Here are some recommendations for this month. And please share one of your favorite holiday reads with us as well.
Fiction – A Very Merry Matchup by Becca Kinzer
This Christmas novella was laugh-out-loud funny, sweet, and full of holiday cheer! The main character, Ivy, was relatable and endearing; I enjoyed her so much. Beau’s crazy, loving family made me laugh and reminisce about Christmases with my own family. Ivy fought hard to stick to her “plan” not to fall for Beau, but in the end, she learned a valuable lesson about surrendering our plans to God and trusting Him with our lives. If you’re looking for a delightful Christmas story, I think you’ll love this one!
Nonfiction – Torchlight Testimonies by Torch Runner Publishing
I was privileged to contribute a chapter to this anthology of real stories of God’s faithfulness. The various authors share about God shining His light in ordinary and extraordinary moments. It’s an encouraging and inspiring read, and all proceeds go to Voice of the Martyrs. If you’re struggling to trust God in hard times, I think you’ll find much encouragement in these testimonies. I hope you’ll check it out. Our God is faithful—always!
Devotional – Jesus Calling for Christmas by Sarah Young (KU)
I’m still reading this book and enjoying it so much! It has beautiful winter photos interspersed throughout the devotions. The author writes as though Jesus were speaking directly to us with His encouraging truth and unconditional love, and with relevant Scriptures at the end of each devotion. I like the focus on Christmas and Jesus coming to be Emmanuel—God with us. It’s a helpful way to meditate on the wonders of Christmas and God’s love for us. (FIY there are no chapter headings, at least in the ebook, so that is a little confusing. But it’s still a lovely read!)
